We are brought up in hierarchies. Parents and teachers at the beginning of our lives become bosses and boards as we age. We get used to being told what to do and to only take the actions prescribed for us.
Since no one within incumbent hierarchies will command us to do the work it takes to break free from them, our conditioning towards external motivations tends to undercut internal drives towards emancipation. In behavioural studies, this is widely recognised and helps explain why so many have a hard time meeting deadlines they’ve set for themselves, even when they assess that the private project is more urgent and significant than what is being requested from an outside party.
To remedy this – and to harvest the subversive prowess trapped inside the many excellent projects that are currently stuck in stages of incomplete – Subversion Imprint now offers a residency. The aim is to get promising creators that operate with self-sufficient agendas to cross their individual version of a finish line.
Those granted the residency stay at a Subversion Imprint proving ground for 3 to 7 days. Before arriving, the creator has defined their own goals for the session and shared them with the Subversion Imprint representatives that will be present on site. The proving grounds are located in either cosmopolitan environments or gorgeous nature. Which one you end up going to depends on your project and needs. Your schedule during the residency is tailored to your individual preferences for rest and leisure to optimise your productivity. Throughout your stay, you’ll be nurtured and encouraged to make sure you stay concentrated, self-compassionate and on track.
Whether you are drawing a map, developing a script or incorporating, Subversion Imprint also offers expertise. During the residency, you can get support from people who can weigh in on strategy, code, pitch rhetoric, legalese and the many other parts that can help speed projects in the subversive genre along.
Subversion Imprint incubates twelve projects through the residency each year. During 2024 you can apply for the residency as a singular actor or in a team of two. Those who have completed their session are also offered follow-up calls if relevant, as well as to be a part of a most interesting alma mater.
The residency does not cost anything, but there is an option to donate to Subversion Imprint, would you, for example, want to help give other subversives a similar opportunity to what you have received. You can also do so at a later date, something that might be particularly relevant if the venture you’re completing is highly lucrative in the longer run.
To apply for the Subversion Imprint Residency, fill out the form on this page, and we will get back to you within a month.
